Susan Taylor, maiden name Tsugawa, a third generation born and raised Oregonian of pure Japanese descent, has held a lifetime passion for exploring the spiritual, cultural and aesthetic elements of her personal heritage. Her deep and varied studies of asian philosophy and design elements have, over time, become cumulatively and quietly imbued into her personality and artistic vision. Her decade long private mentoring with Terry Louie, Chinese painter and calligrapher as well as Yoshiyasu Fujii, Japanese callisgraphic master, has refined her artistic eye to the subtlest variance of line, form and composition. Her personal obsession with fusing the Asiatic with the contemporary Occidental in the glass medium is reflected in all her work, an objectification of her never ending life-long quest for personal understanding and beauty. She currently resides in her native Portland's rural west hills, overlooking the Columbia River and Mt. St. Helens with her husband Mark, three dogs and four macaws.
